How To: Hold a Door Open
There are two different door actions that are easy to confuse. Use the right one for what you want:
| You want to… | Use | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Let someone through once, right now | Release | Momentarily releases the latch, then the door re-secures. |
| Keep the door unlocked for a period | Unlock | The door stays unlocked until you Lock it again. |
Hold-open is not the same as Bypass. Bypass suppresses alarm events for a device (see How To: Bypass a Device); it does not unlock or hold a door open. To keep a door physically open/unlocked, use Unlock.
Steps
- Open a Layout and click the door overlay to open its Door Callout.
- In the callout’s command buttons:
- Click Unlock to hold the door unlocked, or
- Click Release to release the latch momentarily for a single entry.
- When you are finished, click Lock to secure the door again.
Requires the door:lock permission for Lock/Unlock, and door:release for Release.
Tip: To hold several doors open together (for example, an “opening” routine), record the Unlock commands into a Macro and run them in one action.
